Welcome to the portfolio of Joe Foster.

​

Foster has been an active painter and sculptor since the 1960s. Son of sculptor Anthony Foster, who apprenticed with Eric Gill at Pigotts Farm in Buckinghamshire and then ran his studio for a number of years following Gill’s death, he grew up with sculpture and stone with his brothers both becoming sculptors. On leaving school he attended High Wycombe Art School, and while there was a runner up in the Daily Telegraph Young Sculptors’ Competition, exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London.

 

Foster’s practice has ranged across drawing, sculpture and carving in stone, wood and plaster, and painting. For the last 10 years he has focused on painting large abstract still lifes in oil and smaller more intimate acrylics and watercolours. He has exhibited extensively in the South East of England for over 40 years.

 

He lives and works near Watlington, Oxfordshire.
